Description

Overview

John Norton is the head of an enterprise building the greatest hydro-electric dam in the world. One fine morning, a certain Norman Brown forces his way into his office. Only just back to “civilised” life, this exceptional man has forged an impressive charisma and a steely will resisting the gruelling conditions of a penal colony. A lengthy sojourn amongst Amazonia’s indigenous tribes teaches him wisdom, respect for the environment and the art of command.

Brown knows that the badly-directed worksite is heading for disaster. He reveals the gravity of the situation to John Norton and explains his plan for a turnaround. The two men become friends and Norton hires the enigmatic Norman Brown to make a success of the dam project. The latter uses his skills to the project’s advantage and manages to turn the shaky situation around. During his mission, he encounters unknown forces when he discovers the remains of a vanished civilisation, clearly more advanced than our own.

From first to last, this story, like the work of René Barjavel, transports the reader from the tropical forests of South America to the Rocky Mountains of the United States, leading to the discovery of terrible secrets. You will hold your breath up to the final deflagration of the overwhelming dénouement.
